Indirectly saving lives of young girls who would be professionals in the near future

Story by Dale Maleh Kuson

On our normal daily morning walk from Ensisi to Waigani escorting missus to catch her pickup bus. We would always walk pass the Marianville Secondary school bus. As is the routine, I will  leave missus closer to her bus to get on. Then would return to my usual waiting spot.

Well this morning, as I was returning, I looked back towards the bus and noticed the left front tire had deflated. I looked up to indicate to the driver but he was not looking as he was reading the news paper.

When I turned to look back towards Waigani Traffic lights, I saw 3 girls walking towards the bus. Before they could pass me. I spoke to the first 2 and pointed to them the bus tire was flat.

Now this is the part that caught my attention. As soon as the first girl reached the door. She alerted the driver and the prefects. Respect, trust and order was displayed at its best.

Prefects came out ×2 with the driver to confirm. Then the driver and the prefects had a quick very short decision meeting.

Immediately, the 2 prefects with another ran down towards Police station. I had no idea. But all this time no girls came out of the bus. The driver kept his cool and was communicating on his mobile.

About 3 minutes later I saw the 3 girls run back. Advised the driver they had secured a PMV bus and it was coming. The prefects instructed all the girls to come out and wait.

As soon as the PMV bus arrived, there was no rushing, a prefect went in first to direct, then two from outside were instructing all to sit 5 to a row of seats. They let all girls to sit and the 2 prefects were last in. One gave their bus fares to the bus crew. They all fitted. Closed the door and left.

I was so impressed with the level of decision making and discipline displayed by the girls. Certainly, kudos to the Administration, teachers and staff of Marianville Secondary school I couldn't stop telling the driver how well disciplined they were. #Inspiration
