EDUCATION OFFICER

The successful candidate will be working with a small dedicated team within our Education Department and teaching over 18,000 each year to school groups. Highly motivated, enthusiastic, and willing to learn about PNG’s plants and animals and be passionate about working for PNG’s premier attraction.  

 Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Teaching all lessons to high quality to school groups of children
  • Ensuring that all students have a safe, pleasurable, fun, and interactive learning experience
  • Create and maintain student-led and interactive lesson plans for Special Programs and Theme Weeks in accordance with current National Curriculum Syllabus and the Nature Parks objectives
  • Research, organise, and maintain a knowledge bank containing relevant information for lesson plans
  • Assists in the development of and implementation of the Education Department’s policies and procedures
  • Assist with networking with local primary and secondary schools and universities to secure their visitation to the park
  • Assists in developing media ideas to ensure education programs are promoted
  • Explore, update and implement expanding education programs once initial programs are operating smoothly and effectively

Job Requirements:

Skills required for the position:

  • Passion for animals, the environment, sustainability, and Papua New Guinea culture
  • Excellent teaching skills and ability to engage audiences of all age levels
  • Excellent research skills and ability to identify key educational messages pertaining to flora, fauna, and culture for the appropriate age level
  • Track record with demonstrated experience or understanding of student-led education and school excursions
  • Proven written and verbal communication ability with a wide range of stakeholders including between Nature Park departments, schools, NCDC-DOE, and the general public
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft office, email and internet
  • Be able to analyse, problem solve, manage, and complete multiple projects and work assignments with little supervision
  • Must be vaccinated

 

Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Education - highly desirable
  • Industry experience of at least three years – desirable
