University of Technology UNITECH Tops PNG’s Research Rankings in Global Index

The Papua New Guinea University of Technology (PNGUoT) has been named the top-ranked institution in the country for research, science, and technology in 2025, according to the AD Scientific Index.

This achievement was made public last Friday during the official launch of the university’s new website and rebranding campaign. Vice Chancellor Professor Ora Renagi commended the milestone, calling it a reflection of the commitment and diligence of both staff and students.

Prof Renagi emphasized that the institution's focus on applying knowledge for societal benefit was a major factor in achieving this prestigious ranking. “The real value of a university lies in how its knowledge is applied to improve livelihoods,” he said.

While the university currently holds a global ranking of around 6,000, the Vice Chancellor said his goal is to push that number down significantly. “My target is to break into the top hundreds globally,” he said.

He noted that a culture of innovation and solution-based research is growing within the university, as lecturers and students continue to explore impactful approaches to national development.

Prof Renagi also credited the dedication of teaching staff, highlighting that quality education requires thorough preparation and passion. “It’s not easy to teach and conduct research at the same time. Our staff have shown true professionalism,” he said.

He concluded by thanking the university community for striving to create and share new knowledge, stating: “We are exceeding our objectives, and we’ll continue to improve.”
