PNG University of Technology Recalls 2023–2024 Engineering Certificates for Global Accreditation

LAE – The Papua New Guinea University of Technology (PNGUoT) has issued an urgent recall of all engineering certificates awarded to its 2023 and 2024 graduates, following the international accreditation of its engineering programs.

According to a statement released on 14 September 2025, PNGUoT’s five engineering programs recently received accreditation from Engineers Australia under the prestigious Washington Accord, which sets a global benchmark for engineering education. To align with this new standard, the university will reissue bachelor certificates to all engineering graduates of 2023 and 2024.

The university confirmed that the Academic Board revoked all engineering certificates issued on 5 April 2023 and 5 April 2024, stating these will no longer be recognized by PNGUoT or other stakeholders. Graduates are required to return their original certificates to receive new ones that comply with the updated accreditation guidelines, ensuring their degrees gain international recognition.

Graduates residing in Lae and Morobe Province are advised to personally return their certificates to the Exams Office (Student Administration Office) to collect their replacements. Those living outside Morobe must send their original certificates, along with valid identification and a return prepaid secured postal service, to the Academic & Student Administration Division at PNGUoT.

The university also allows graduates to nominate someone to collect their certificates on their behalf by providing authorization via email to the Examinations Office and ensuring the nominee presents valid identification. New certificates will only be issued once the old certificates are received by the university, with no reprints available after issuance.

Issuance of the updated certificates will run from September to December 2025. PNGUoT stressed that no certificates will be issued after 31 December 2025. For further inquiries, graduates can contact the Exams Officer via graduation.enquiries@pnguot.ac.pg
