Cadet Youth Researchers : PNG Medical Research Institute
About the Role
PNGIMR is seeking Cadet Youth Researchers to join its Social Science Research Teams in Goroka and Kokopo. The successful candidates will participate in Social Science (Qualitative) Research under the Population Health Unit, specifically focusing on Youth-Friendly Research Projects related to Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH).
Aligned with PNGIMR’s commitment to “for young people, by young people,” the program provides young researchers with hands-on training and mentorship. You will work as part of a dynamic “youth research hub” and gain experience in developing, leading, and translating social research into meaningful outcomes for youth health in PNG.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct qualitative research on youth health and SRH topics.
- Collaborate with senior researchers to collect, analyze, and interpret data.
- Participate in training to build research and fieldwork skills.
- Co-lead and co-author research outputs under supervision.
- Engage with local communities and youth groups to promote SRH awareness.
- Travel to project sites in Eastern Highlands and East New Britain as required.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Currently enrolled in or have completed studies in Social Science, Anthropology, Indigenous Studies, Human Studies, or a related field.
- Demonstrated interest in youth or health-related research.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to travel to field sites.
- PNG citizens aged between 18–30 years are strongly encouraged to apply.
