Unemployment is particularly complicated in Papua New Guinea's urban areas like Port Moresby and Lae where it is estimated that 60% to 70% of youths are unemployed and less than 5% of those employed are in formal waged jobs.
This problem is then compounded by the 'backlog' of university and college graduates from previous years who have yet to find employment.
The frightening reality is, the labour market in PNG has not diversified into creating newer jobs in newer sectors - this is exacerbated by the fact that there has been NO growth in the labour market in PNG in the past decade.
NOBODY is talking about the staggering UNEMPLOYMENT rate in the National Capital District (NCD) and across PNG.
