A new book series “When I Grow Up, I want to be a: Pilot, Teacher, Store Manager, ICT Officer, Farmer and Paramedic.” was launched by the students and teachers of Buk bilong Pikinini at Brian Bell Gordons Plaza. It is the goal of Buk bilong Pikinini to create a mini-library of professions to inspire the children to think about their future careers and understand the importance of education. In this initiative, the children have learned what it takes to become a pilot from role models at (PNG Air) or a Teacher (BbP) or Store Manager (Brian Bell Group), plus many more great career options. The children all dressed in professional PPE visited Gordons Plaza to launch the books.

The Brian Bell Group Chairman, Mr. Ian Clough said, “At the Brian Bell Group, we are proud of our rich history in Papua New Guinea and the support we provide to the Sir Brian Bell Foundation and its many partners. It was wonderful to host this event at Gordons Plaza and showcase our incredible team, including the opportunities our business can provide to PNG. I hope this series of books inspires a new generation of managers, teachers, pilots, farmers, IT specialists, and medical professionals. The future of PNG is looking very bright”.
CEO of the Sir Brian Bell Foundation, Bronwyn Wright said “The Sir Brian Bell Foundation is a proud partner of Buk Bilong Pikinini. Currently, the Foundation supports 6 library learning centres, champions special needs education, provides holistic support operationally, and gets involved with many special projects – just like this one. Being part of the When I Grow Up series has been so special and incredibly rewarding. It is important for our children to see the possibilities that education can bring to them and their communities”.
Founder and Chair of BbP said “We are incredibly proud of how well the children have embraced their roles as mini professionals. PNG children need to see themselves in leadership roles from a young age to inspire them to see education as the way to achieve their goals. A great thank you to the Sir Brian Bell Foundation and partners for your support to make this happen for the children.”
Executive Officer of BbP said: “Thank you to our amazing role models who have helped to inspire and empower the children to believe in themselves. These books and videos will help demystify various professions for children who live in remote locations or do not have parents in professional jobs. We are looking forward to creating many more inspirational stories thanks to the generous support from our donor partners.”
The 6 new titles are available for purchase at Theodist and from Buk bilong Pikinini for only K20. An additional 7 readers are currently in production and a video showcasing the children in their professional roles on location is available now to watch.
