The British High Commission Port Moresby, in a statement on its Facebook page on Friday, stated that Amba would be studying for a masters of science in hydrography (MSc) at Plymouth University in the United Kingdom.
“I am also appreciative to be considered for a Chevening award to undertake post-graduate studies in the UK,” Amba said.
“I feel confident as my Chevening award has given me the drive that I am valuable and globally competitive.
“I appreciate my Chevening award as it will assist in my education and professional endeavours to develop and foster new knowledge and skills to contribute to Papua New Guinea’s sustainable development plans through the MSc hydrography programme.
“With increasing global challenges such as global warming, pandemics and other issues affecting PNG and the world, there is a need for more robust leaders through the Chevening scholarship programme to lead PNG and the world in creating solutions to these issues.”
Amba chose the field of study because he wants to contribute to Papua New Guinea’s national sustainable development, encompassing hydrographic surveying, which is fundamental to the offshore design, construction and navigation of infrastructure projects, and contributes to safety of navigation and port management for seas, rivers and lakes and underwater infrastructure projects and offshore energy developments.
