Sakato Gets Economic Policy Analysis Course (EPAC) Dux Award

The PNG NRI Diploma Certificate in Economic Policy Analysis has been conducted annually since 1989 as an intensive full-time course designed for individuals interested in improving their understanding of key government economic and other public policies that impact sustainable economic growth and development of Papua New Guinea (PNG).

This year (2021), EPAC enrolled 51 participants (out of 92 applications) for eight weeks from 06 September to 29 October 2021. 48 participants completed the course. The other 3 did not complete the course – due to various reasons including illnesses.

The performance of the EPAC 2021 participants was exemplary. We had 4 students with Higher Distinction; 20 with Distinction; 17 with Credit; and the remaining 7 got a Pass.

A Diploma Certificate in Economic Policy Analysis is awarded to a candidate who passes all 3 assessment components: Continuous Assessment, Final Examination, and Policy Research Paper that are, respectively, weighted 30%, 30%, and 40% to compute the candidates final score.

The best performing student, Mr. Francis Sakato, who works as an analyst with the Independent Consumer and Competition Commission (ICCC) scored straight ‘A’s with 89.7% becoming the Dux of the Year.

Mr. Sakato was presented with a Trophy prize donated by the PNG Chamber of Mines and Petroleum. The Council, Management, and Staff of NRI thank the PNG Chamber of Mines and Petroleum for donating the prize.
