A Degree Doesn't Equate to Financial Freedom Says Des Yeninen, CEO of Pacifund Financial Services

A Degree Doesn't Equate to Financial Freedom Says Des Yeninen, CEO of Pacifund Financial Services

Yeninen is not the only business leader to say this.

Billionaire Elon Musk says that college is "not for learning."

Marketing guru and entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk says there are "endless free ways to learn about business" — and points out that many companies don't actually require a degree

Sales guru and real estate tycoon, Grant Cardone says Time is money and ponders whether college is a worthwhile investment.

For Gail Corder Fischer, not having a degree helped her strengthen her work ethic and problem-solving skill

While a university degree may be useful to help grow your skills and make new connections, it is not a prerequisite to becoming a leader in your industry.

It is worth noting that there are other fields where a degree is a must. For instance, to practice law, you need a law degree. Without it, it is illegal to practice law.

But to become a web developer, you don't necessarily need a degree.

That is the sentiment echoed by Yeninen and other known global business leaders mentioned above.

“With the exception of specialist high-demand degrees, an estimated 80% of Degree holders in PNG fail to find employment related to their training and less than 40% find any employment at all within the first 2 years of graduating.

“I suspect a young person will be more successful financially if he or she invested their university school fees into setting up their own business.

“Have seen plenty of cases of this elsewhere in PNG and the world. A degree makes you a better employee.

“Owning a business makes you an employer”

It is also wise to note that just as a university degree is not for everyone, so is entrepreneurship not for everyone.

Whatever path you choose, will ultimately determine your future.
