THE Papua New Guinea Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology Department conducted a two-day workshop in Port Moresby to prepare its staff for tertiary student selections.
DHERST Acting secretary Fr Jan Czuba told local media a training workshops was conducted to train teaching staff who were responsible for the online applications and selections for tertiary education study assistance scheme (Tesas) and higher education loan programme (Help), how to use a customised software (Unit 10).
“The staff are learning the electronic system to award Tesas and Help to eligible students for the next academic year,” he said.
Czuba said the software was implemented in 2017, with new modules created each year.
“This year, we plan to create an electronic bio-data report for each successful student from secondary to tertiary,” he said.
“It will help us to monitor each student, and assist us with Tesas and Help awards.
“Hence, once the students are selected to colleges and universities, their updated data can also be transferred automatically.”
Czuba said the system boosted transparency, accountability and cost reduction, and saved time.
He said the students’ selections to tertiary institutions would hopefully be done early next month.
