Renee’s Journey: From Scholarship Recipient to Community Leader

Renee Ofae’s story is one of determination, gratitude, and inspiring success. As one of the first recipients of the Imbi Tagune Scholarship at Papua New Guinea University of Technology, Renee’s journey began with hope and a dream to make a difference. Awarded the scholarship in her final year of study in 2024, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Development Studies—a milestone that marked the start of her impactful career.

Today, Renee thrives as a Community Relations Officer with MRDC, where she plays a vital role in connecting with communities and delivering meaningful programs in health, education, and social support. Her work goes beyond a job; it’s a mission to create positive change and uplift those around her.

For Renee, success is not just personal—it’s a tribute to her parents who supported her every step of the way. “My success is my parents’ success. I aspire to succeed to honour them,” she says with heartfelt pride.

She believes that true competition lies within oneself. “In the real world, you are your own competition. If others can do it, so can you,” Renee shares, encouraging others to believe in their own potential.

The Imbi Tagune Scholarship, established by MRDC to honour the memory of the late Imbi Tagune—one of the company’s longest-serving managers—has proven to be more than financial support; it has been a catalyst for nurturing future leaders like Renee. Her journey is a powerful reminder that with opportunity, perseverance, and a strong heart, dreams can transform into reality.
