Certificate in Higher Education Foundation Studies (CHEFS)
Western Pacific University launches its online Certificate in Higher Education Foundation Studies (CHEFS). This program, of which two of its units will be offered in September 2025, includes:
Craft of Academic Writing and Foundations of Academic Research—designed to empower learners with essential skills for scholarly success. These flexible, expert-led courses offer a strong foundation in writing and research, ideal for students, professionals, and lifelong learners aiming to excel in academic environments.

Course Details
FYS202: Craft of Academic Writing
This unit will build on the academic writing skills introduced in Foundation Skills for University Learning and provide you with a working knowledge of the more advanced written communication skills required to succeed in an academic context. All the completion of this unit, you are able to:
FYS203: Foundations of Academic Research
This unit exposes and empowers the students to acquire basic essential research knowledge, skills and values in enabling them to achieve academic research success. It introduces the concept of research, research process and application of some of the common research types, methods, methodologies, sampling techniques and instruments grounding them in the disciplines of Sociology, Linguistics, Geography, Climate Change and History.

Enter into WPU's 3-year Bachelor Programmes
Enter into other University's with similar programmes
As the Certificate in Higher Education Foundation Studies is a bridging program with a Level 4 Certificate, it allows for students and interested individuals to gain a certificate that will give them flexibility in entry into WPU and other universities, should they meet their criteria as well.
Requirements
Non-school leavers can only submit one application form
The entry GPA of 2.9 with A/B grades for all subjects
Ensure all information in the application form are current and valid (Validity of information must be current and accurate in the last 6 months)
The outcome of the application will be communicated via email
Copies of original documents must be officially certified by a registered Commissioner of Oaths
All copies of documents must be scanned in pdf file format
Statutory Declaration Forms will be rejected if the documents are not officially stamped and signed by a Commissioner of Oaths
Hand-delivered, email delivered or post delivered applications will not be accepted

Transcripts/certificates of academic records (college/university studies, vocational training, distance/open learning courses)
Grade 10 certificate (Copies of original documents must be officially certified by a registered Commissioner of Oaths)
Grade 12 certificate 9 Copies of original documents must be officially certified by a registered Commissioner of Oaths)
Recent Character references from two (2) referees, (e.g. priest, pastor, ward councillor or Headmaster, employer)
A current Police Clearance report
