Papua New Guinea's UNIVERSITY of Goroka (UOG) acting vice chancellor Dr Teng Waninga says students found to defraud the university by producing fake documents will not receive refunds.
Waninga said this last week in light of two discoveries by staff conducting student registrations.
In one case, 39 first year students were found to have altered grades on their certificates.

In the second case, one student was found to be enrolled in another university while attempting to enroll a relative at UOG.
Director of student administration Pascalis Mape said that usually students’ soft copies of marks and grades were kept by universities.
“From 2011 to 2017, we usually hold on to the soft copies, but up until 2018, due to a confidentiality breach by certain individuals at a certain university, who displayed student marks on social media, the measurement standard unit keeps the soft copies itself,” he said.
Mape stressed that what was obvious during registration would be noted and others who had gone unnoticed would have all their documents verified by the unit after registration.
Of the 39, two were cleared and 37 will now be referred to police after registration.
“Those 37 have been given withdrawal letters and all or any monies paid to the university will be forfeited,” he added.
Waninga also cited the case of the lone student who was discovered to be already accepted by another university when trying to register his relative at UOG.
“I call on other universities to be vigilant as students are looking for loopholes to outsmart the system,” he said. “This is the highest fraud case this year.
“In 2018, we had a total of 20 plus students who altered figures on deposit slips to pay their way in,” he said.
“They were referred to police.
“Now there will be no refunds for any found lying and cheating their way in.
“Those at the measurement unit who are privy to student documentations must uphold the integrity of their office.”
