Bomana Police College

Bomana Police College is a Police training institute located in Bomana, Port Moresby North-East Electorate in Papua New Guinea (PNG). This institution recruits and trains police cadets to become officers in the Papua New Guinea Royal Constabulary (PNGRC).

It has a boarding facilities that  includes dorms, dinning hall, training fields, classrooms and shooting area. There are over 10 trainers that trains the cadet officers.

Study Programs at Bomana Police College 

The  Bomana Police College offers 6-months certificate program in basic policing. In addition, a 3-months engagement in Port Moresby  as part of their  training.

Field of Study and Careers in PNG Police Force.

After completing training at the Bomana Police College, officers  become  one of the following based on their training and career interest. 

  1. Careers in the PNG Police Force
  2. Public Safety Officer
  3. Detective
  4. Close Protection officer
  5. Dog Handler
  6. Maritime Officer 
  7. Air Wing officer
  8. Anti-Fraud & Corruption investigator 
  9. Community Policing Officer
  10. Traffic & Highway Patrol Officers
  11. Administrators in the police force.

How to apply to become a Police Officer in Papua New Guinea

Any Papua New Guineans can apply to study and train as Police Officers at Bomana Police College. The follow criteria must be met :

  • There is a age limit for those who wish to become Police officers. That is the required age is 18 - 25 years of age.
  • You must have completed Grade 12 or that level of education before you apply to Bomana Police College.
  • The command of Instruction at Bomana Police College is  in English. Thus, you have good speaking and writing skills in English. 
  • The college only accepts unmarried students. Both male and female students who are not married are eligible to apply to study at Bomana Police College.

Types of Police Recruitment at Bomana Police College

There are two types of police recruitment processes. These are 
  1. Regular Recruitment 
  2. Direct Entry Cadets
Recruits who wish to apply can select any on the two categories above. 

Regular Recruitment Specification

  • Number of Recruitments :  500 
  • Duration of Training :  6 months training & 3 months engagement
  • Allowance :   Paid on agreed rate.

Direct Entry Cadets Specification 

Below are the specifications for Direct Entry Cadets training

  • Recruitments : 60 cadets 
  • 6 months regular recruit training 
  • 6 months policing attachment in NCd
  • 3 months Law & Prosecution training 
  • overseas police attachment 
  • 3 months command &  training essential course

About Bomana

Bomana is located about 12 kilometers outside Port Moresby. It is the home of the country's top prison called Bomana prison. The CIS institute is also located in Bomana. 

Bomana has several primary schools and secondary schools. These include, Bomana Primary School, Bomana Elementary school, De la Salle Secondary School, Bomana Catholic College, Marianville Secondary School, Sacred Heart Teachers college , Koairi Park Adventist Secondary school and IBS University. 

On top of that, Bomana has the Second World War Cemetery run by the Australian Government.
