About Help Loan 

The Higher Education Load Program (HELP)  is a new initiative by the Government of Papua New Guinea aimed at enhancing access to quality tertiary Education in PNG. 

It addresses the increasing number of students unable to access post-secondary education due to lack of financial resources. It will provided for eligible higher education students an income contingent loan with a zero-based interest and is therefore repayable once student graduates and commences a paid employment .

Vision of HELP Program

To facilitate and serve developments into the Papua New Guinea Higher and Technical Education Sector for economics, social growth and nation building.

Eligibility of HELP - Undergraduate

  1.  Be a Papua New Guinean Citizen
  2.  Be enrolled, registered at a Higher Education Institution recognized by DHERST
  3. Academic program undertaken must be formally reviewed and accredited by NHTEB

HELP LOAN APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Signed HELP Declaration Form (Can be download on the links provided at the end of this post)
  2. NID/Birth Certificate

How to apply for HELP Loan in PNG

The application process for HELP loan is online. Before you apply online, you must do the following. 

See your institution registrar or Student Data Officer for a HELP Declaration Form (It is also available on the link provided below). Complete the form and submit back to your registrar and / or student data officer.

Ensure to get your invitation letter which will contain your credentials for you to access your HELP online account to complete your application for the LOAN.

  1.  Complete registration Process with Higher Education Institution( HEI) (Your institution that you are enrolled). 
  2.  Fill in declaration form and submit to your institution registrar/Data officer to indicate intent to apply
  3.  Receive credentials from your registrar/Data officer 
  4.  Login  to the DHEST HELP Loan application and APPLY  (Login here

HELP LOAN APPLICATION OPEN and Closing dates.

Application for HELP LOAN Opens in   MARCH (annually) 

Closes in : October (annually) (consults DHERST For exact dates)

HELP Loan Amounts 

The amount that students will receive from their HELP Loan depends on the type of registered higher education institute they are studying in and the qualification level of the accredited programme as outlined in the PNG National Qualification Framework. 

The HELP loan amount is to cover cost for the current academic year only. Student’s applicants are strongly advised to apply only or the amount they need. HELP monies are non-refundable and any claims of reimbursement won’t be considered by DHERST.
