A dinner hosted in Port Moresby on December 6 brought together leaders, families and education officials to acknowledge the 60 students preparing to depart. The event was held at the Hilton Hotel.

Prime Minister James Marape, who is also the Member for Tari-Pori, joined Hela Governor Philip Undialu, Education Director Ronny Angu, FODE Coordinator Thomas Kopari, representatives from Parul University and national education authorities at the farewell. Parents and guardians also attended to show their support for the students.

This is the second cohort sponsored under the partnership between the Hela Provincial Government, the Hela Education Division and Parul University. Last year, 120 students travelled under the program, with a further 60 now set to follow.

Provincial education leaders say the initiative is opening new learning pathways and giving young Hela students exposure to international training opportunities. The FODE and TVET programs continue to grow across the province, with 6,428 learners recorded in FODE this year alone — a number officials say reflects the commitment to accessible, flexible education for all.
