PNG’s New Miss Bird of Paradise Commends Inclusive Learning Efforts

Papua New Guinea’s Miss Bird of Paradise 2025–2026, Iampela Popena, has praised the Academy of Inclusive Learning for its commitment to supporting children with diverse learning needs after attending its third graduation ceremony as her first official engagement.

Popena joined families and staff at the event, which highlighted the academy’s evolution from tutoring classes in 2006 to the launch of a daycare program in 2020, and finally its rebranding in 2023 to reflect its broader educational mission.

The academy offers a wide range of services, including coaching for Grades 3 to 12, homeschooling, FODE and early childhood learning. It also delivers a specialised curriculum for children with learning disabilities, in line with its motto: “Nurturing an individual’s learning ability/disability is our Passion.”

Students staged three performances during the ceremony, and Popena said their confidence at such a young age impressed her. She applauded their effort and spirit.

Delivering her speech after the awards, Popena encouraged students and families to continue embracing inclusion. “Inclusivity isn’t just a word, it's a promise to see each other, to lift each other, and to create spaces where everyone belongs,” she said.

She later joined teachers, parents, graduates and guests for a group photo session. “I ended by congratulating them and wished them all the best in their educational journey,” she said.
