University of Papua New Guinea Announces 2026 Fee Structure, Urges Students to Prepare Early
The University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) has released its official fees structure for the 2026 academic year, advising all students, parents, and sponsors to familiarise themselves with the updated requirements. The announcement, authorised by Acting Registrar Mr. Robson Kialap, outlines compulsory fees, school-based charges, residential accommodation costs, and important deadlines for both new and continuing students.
According to the fee schedule, all undergraduate students across UPNG’s four schools—Waigani Campus, Taurama Health Sciences, Taurama BOH/BDS (DDT, MBBS, DAS), and Taurama Nursing—will pay compulsory annual fees ranging from K3,585.00 to K4,145.00. International and South Pacific students will pay separate banded fees, with programmes varying from K8,185.00 to K26,930.00, depending on the discipline. Postgraduate students will also see updated annual program fees, including Master of Arts (K8,525.00), Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health (K4,335.00), and Doctor of Medicine (K11,370.00).
The University has confirmed that all students must pay compulsory components comprising tuition, service, administrative fees, and the SRC levy. A non-refundable security bond of K300.00 will continue to apply for first-time residential students before accommodation is allocated. Accommodation fees for 2026 range from K9,850.00 for Basic Twin Share at Waigani Campus to K14,790.00 for Single/Double with Ensuite at Taurama BOH/BDS.
UPNG has reminded all new students that registration will only be confirmed once the Proforma Invoice is fully paid by Friday, 6 February 2026. New students must also submit their acceptance letters and invoices by 2 February 2026, and those from provinces are advised to arrive early in Port Moresby to secure accommodation. Continuing students must meet the minimum GPA requirements and ensure all outstanding 2025 fees are settled before registering for 2026.
The University further highlighted that online and blended learning will remain compulsory, meaning students are required to have their own laptops or digital devices. Students under TESAS scholarships may experience adjustments based on classification lists released by the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST).
UPNG has advised that all fee payments must be made only into the designated University accounts and warned students not to return to campus if they are unsure of their financial status. “Students are fully responsible for the prompt settlement of outstanding fees,” the Registrar emphasised in the circular.
